Industry Expertise

Communication Consulants is a forward-thinking, dynamic business started by Carl Richardson in August 2001. Carl believes in the old adage that "people deal with people" and supervises all projects personally, supported by his Service Level Agreement partners, currently (January 2011) consisting of over 200 people with a combined turnover in excess of £20m.

Carl Richardson

Carl started his communications career back in 1984, working as an engineer in the North West of England. Like many at the time Carl saw there would be many opportunities arising out of the fledgling and newly liberalised telecommunications industry. After this 'hands on' beginning, Carl moved into an account management role supporting products from Ferranti, Plessey and National Telephone Systems across a wide spectrum of industry and commerce.

In 1992 Carl joined DEC as senior sales executive where he remained for 8 years as the company developed into a major market force. Here he gained an intimate knowledge of complex applications and acquired certification in NEC, Siemens, Bosch, Fujitsui, GPT, ACC and Gandalf products.

In May 2000 Carl joined ttml based in the south of England and obtained Lucent Technology & Alcatel accreditation to expand on his comprehensive knowledge before moving into the market as an independent consultant.

Carl has been fortunate enough to develop many corporate and major account clients during his career; these include Manchester Airport Authority, Genrad, Myriad ,LMS,Balluff GMBH, IJS Global, NHS, Servista, Timberwise, Mott MacDonald, Milliken, ERF plus several large Government and College Campus solutions.

An accomplished account manager and engineer, Carl specialises in complex or multi-sited applications and brings to the table a vast amount of project management expertise. Coupled with his considerable "best of breed" Voice and Data know-how, he can provide an advice and appraisals service tailored to your needs.

Carl has been there and done it, and can spot a poor-performing solution faster than just about anyone else. Carl is also a brilliant project engineer and can put all the pieces of the jigsaw together from network, right through to a bespoke system design that’s exclusive to you.

Gary Cockerill

Gary started out in the telecoms industry way back in 1984 contracting for various cabling companies, working for such names as GPT and Ferranti. In 1990 Gary joined what was then Telephone Rentals (later to become Mercury communications) as an installation engineer installing various PABX and key systems from a wide range of manufacturers such as Siemens/GPT/Nitsuko, etc. During the next 13 years Gary worked on a number of prestigious installations but most notably Gary built and tested the first National Lottery call centre system based in Aintree, Liverpool and was the resident telecoms engineer on site during the first ever live draw.

During the early part of the 1990s Mercury communications sold its PABX arm to Siemens Communications and Gary went with it. During the latter part of Gary’s career at Siemens he was seconded onto the Lloyds TSB team working for Cable and Wireless, looking after the entire Lloyds/TSB VPN network. He headed up a team of 4 other Siemens engineers who were responsible for fault monitoring and system maintenance.

In 2001 Gary left Siemens and Joined Crane Telecommunications as an Avaya pre-sales specialist, responsible for looking after a large number of Avaya dealers throughout the northwest, advising and supporting resellers from a pre-sales technical point of view.

In 2002-3 Gary joined Global telecom based in Bury as a pre-sales specialist and later became Avaya manager with a responsibility for all Avaya pre-sales and installation support. During this period Gary was also responsible for supporting Global’s network of partners, helping to sell and support the Avaya product range.

In January 2009 Gary joined Communications Consultants as technical director responsible for all things technical and brought with him a number of high profile customers such as Sheffield Galleries & Museums, Fairfield Hospital and Lytham Technology college amongst others.

In short Gary has had over 20 years experience within the telecommunications industry and has done most jobs in the industry, moving up from humble cable installation engineer up to Technical Director. This experience gives Gary a unique understanding of a customer’s needs and the very best way of achieving optimum results, keeping the customer happy – which these days is a number one priority.

Gary jointly runs our technical team and is involved at the crucial solution design stage, right through to making sure that our 100+ direct account clients receive the best technical back up in the business, whether from contact with our support desk engineers or from direct on-site support visits.
